Quilt Show 2014

Our Quilt Show is held annually every autumn. Our shows host a variety of categories in which many of our members’ quilts are entered. This year, we are holding the show at a new venue and will have vendors, a Quilt of Valor display, a Bed Turning and a Boutique that’s larger than ever.

Boutique

In conjunction with our annual Quilt show, we hold a boutique where attendees are welcome to purchase everything from fabric to projects.

Kingman Quilters’ Quilts of Valor Program

Quilts of Valor (QOV) is a National Program, the purpose of which is to honor and thank service men and women who have suffered either physical or mental trauma during their service to our country. This is done by making a quilt, usually with patriotic colors & presenting it to the service person in a presentation bag, usually a pillow case (also in patriotic colors) with which a thank you card is enclosed along with care and washing instructions.

Our Kingman Quilters Guild chose to start making Quilts of Valor for our local Wounded Warriors. We have chosen to limit the area in which we present the QOVs, to residents of Mohave County. Our program is not part of the National Program, but we use their guidelines. The suggested size is 54″ x 67″. Minimal size is suggested no smaller than 50″ x 60″ and maximum suggested size is 72″ x 87″. It is also requested that you use quilt store quality fabric. Please do not use muslin for the backing. The guild furnishes the batting and our long arm quilters will quilt each quilt for $50.00 unless it is an oversize, then there will be an extra charge.

We started this program November of 200, and have done it annually since that date. We present the quilts in a ceremony held at the Mohave Museum of History & Arts in Kingman. Our ceremony is usually held the Saturday after Veteran’s Day at 2:00PM. The quilts are completely voluntarily created and hold a special place in each recipient’s heart. If a recipient is unable to attend the ceremony, we will see that he or she receives their quilt at a date of their convenience. We ask our guild members to submits Wounded Warrior’s names, phone numbers & addresses, if possible, through out the year, to the Quilt of Valor Committee.

Opportunity Quilt 2014 – “Arizona”

Each year KQG establishes a committee to oversee the budget and completion of our Opportunity Quilt. Members volunteer to help plan, construct and finish the quilt. The completed quilt is then displayed at various local quilt shows with tickets sold by members for the drawing of the winner at KQG annual Quilt Show. The winning ticket is drawn the last day of our show (on October 4th 2014 for this year’s show).

This year’s Opportunity Quilt was made by Gene K and Doreen G. It was quilted by Stephanie D all members in good standing of our Kingman Quilters Guild. The name of this quilt is “Arizona”. The pyramid shaped blocks on the border of this quilt represent the four elements of Earth, Wind, Fire and Water, which are incorporated nicely into the name of our Quilt Show: Arizona: Earth, Wind, Fire, Water.

When not displayed at other quilt events to raise money for our guild, the quilt may be seen at Connie’s Quilter’s Hideaway, 310 E Beale St. Kingman, AZ 86401 (928) 753-9095.
